Working alongside retailer and farmer customers, we know that a "win" is often defined by more than just the final number on a yield monitor. For Isaac Popp, Retail Sales Agronomist in East Central Minnesota and Trent Moeller, Retail Sales Agronomist in Eastern South Dakota, true performance is measured by the strength of local retail and grower partnerships, consistently showing up and helping to solve complex problems before they hit the bottom line.
While top yield is important, Isaac and Trent highlight how the real value in Brevant® seeds lies in its pipeline of innovation and the boots-on-the-ground expertise that helps retail sellers and growers overcome the continuous challenges in crop production.
One of the things that keeps things interesting for Isaac and Trent is that no two years are the same. For Isaac, delivering performance means understanding the varying environmental pressures in Minnesota and matching them with the right genetics. In the west, where Iron Deficiency Chlorosis (IDC) can be devastating, they have found success with Brevant soybean varieties specifically bred for high IDC tolerance.
“Being able to provide Enlist E3® soybeans with IDC tolerance and Peking resistance is a consistent win for our customers.” Isaac explains.
On the eastern side of the state, white mold has been a primary challenge, but Isaac shared his retailers have confidence in being able to provide Brevant® seeds with enhanced tolerance to white mold.
Trent echoes this focus on trait and genetic superiority, “using our Corteva germplasm, that is a differentiator.” He notes that throughout on-farm trials the advantage often begins the moment the seed hits the soil. "Brevant seed shoots right out of the ground compared to most of our competitor brands – and pointing that out, having conversations with the grower can help build confidence in the brand."
Performance also means being agile. Isaac recalls a specific instance with a large dairy grower that tested the team’s adaptability. They originally had an order set for BMR corn when they went to meet with this grower, but instead within the first few minutes he expressed his need to transition into a new Forage Quality (FQ) product that would provide more flexibility for his operation.
A major driver of Brevant success for both Isaac and Trent have been leveraging Lead with Seed and Brevant Experience Trials (BXTs). While they provide a fantastic opportunity to showcase the latest innovations such as Enlist E3® soybeans and high-performing corn hybrids with Vorceed® trait technology, Trent shared how they use these on-farm trials to turn uncertainty into long-term growth.
A few years ago, Trent approached Jay, one of his retail sellers who had a desire to incorporate Brevant® seed into his mix but had some discomfort on getting started. Together, they worked to place on-farm trials in his region. With one grower, it allowed Jay to expand his chemical business into a seed sale as well.
“This was an opportunity for him to get back on that farm. We led with Brevant seed and completed field checks throughout the year.” Trent detailed. “That has been probably one of the best success stories - not only did Jay get some units on that farm year one, but he’s now up to 400 units of Brevant seed this past year.”
Trent stressed that the genetic diversity in Brevant® seed gave them more odds of having success on that farm, but using Jay’s knowledge of that farm to help put the right product on the right acre helped to build further trust with that grower and the Brevant® brand.
Working together to identify specific needs of the acre and the personal goals of the grower, our Brevant Retail Sales Agronomists are fostering successful teams that shift the conversation. Leading traits and genetics—is the essential toolset, but the satisfaction comes from seeing a retail partner grow and a farmer find a new competitive edge. Whether it's helping a retailer like Jay expand his foothold on a farm or helping a dairy grower find operational flexibility, these partnerships are the true Brevant performance story.
